The song “Naatu Naatu,” written by MM Keeravani, won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song.
India won its first Golden Globe on January 11 for the song “Natu Natu” from the movie “RRR” by SS Rajamouli.
The movie RRR was also nominated for “best picture—non-English,” a separate category. But “Argentina, 1985,” a historical drama by Santiago Mitre, won the award for best film in a language other than English.
The award-winning movie “Argentina 1985” is about the Trial of the Juntas, which took place in 1985. It was when the leaders of Argentina’s last civil-military dictatorship were put on trial.
“Decision to Leave,” “All Quiet on the Western Front,” and “Close,” a French-Dutch coming-of-age drama, were the other films nominated in this category.
Austin Butler, a young actor who played Elvis Presley in the movie “Elvis,” won the award for best actor in a movie drama. Butler seemed nervous as he accepted the Golden Globe in front of many of the biggest names in show business. Cate Blanchett won the award for “Tar,” which was a drama.
Michelle Yeoh, a veteran actress, won the award for best actress in a musical or comedy for her lead role in the action movie “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.”
“The Fabelmans,” which Steven Spielberg directed, won awards for best film and director. Colin Farrell also won the award for the best performance by an actor in a movie, musical, or comedy. As he accepted his award, Farrell said, “I never expect movies to work or find an audience, so when they do, it surprises me.”
Angela Bassett won a Golden Globe for her role as Queen Ramonda in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” However, it was for a supporting role. In “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once,” Ke Huy Quan won the award for best actor in a supporting role.
“The Banshees of Inisherin,” written by Martin McDonagh, won the award for best screenplay.
The best TV series and drama award went to “House of the Dragon,” a prequel to “Game of Thrones.” “Abbott Elementary” won the best TV show, comedy, or musical award. Kevin Costner’s role in “Yellowstone” won him the award for best performance by an actor in a TV series.
“The White Lotus” won the award for best TV movie, limited series, or anthology series.
This year’s award ceremony is particularly noteworthy for the Indian film industry because SS Rajamouli’s epic action drama RRR is competing for the top prizes with films like Top Gun, the Avatar sequel, The Fabelmans, and others.
Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and other artists compete against RRR’s Natu Natu, produced by MM Keeravani, Chandra Bose, Kala Bhairava, and Rahul Sipligunj. Top pop singers and well-known Hollywood figures are represented in the other songs up for Best Original Song nomination. The song was named The Best Original Song at the awards ceremony. The entire RRR crew was present, including SS Rajamouli, NTR, and Ram Charan. They gave MM Keeravani a standing ovation as he accepted the honor. Natu Natu was a finalist for the Oscars’ Original Song category in 2023. The Academy revealed the ten categories’ shortlisted candidates, including Natu Natu.
